Exhibition: Clubs and Societies 7th and 8th November 2026

When the working day was over. Opportunities to relax, socialise and build friendships
The annual Village Archive Exhibition this year will showcase the many Clubs and Societies that have existed throughout the years. Many are still in existence, not least SAVA of course, but Football, Cricket, Golf, Netball, Cycling, Angling and Badminton are amongst the sporting clubs, with Brownies, WI, Valentines Club, Horticultural and Allotments amongst the less sporting but just as essential clubs and societies that continue today.
Several former groups such as the Scouts, and Steeple Aston Players are well known and deeply missed, but our research through the Archive has unearthed many other unusual and fascinating societies, all of which will be described and wherever possible illustrated with photographs. Have you heard of the “Foresters”, for example, who met seemingly quite secretly in the rooms above the Chequers, or the various “Slate Clubs” and the notorious “Sparrow Club”?
Details of all current Clubs and Societies featured will be displayed so that any enquiries about joining can be made.
Village Hall - Free Entry. Donations and book sales
Saturday 7th November 2026 2pm to 6pm and Sunday 8th November 2026 12noon to 4pm
